Essential Tasks to Check Off Before Moving Day

2 Months Before

  • Research moving costs and get quotes from various companies
  • Organize important documents such as passports, birth certificates and financial records
  • Collect school records and transfer
  • Order packing supplies
  • Declutter and sort through your belongings and decide what to keep, donate or discard
  • Inform current utility providers and insurance companies
  • Start packing away non-essential items such as seasonal clothing and decor

1 Month Before

  • Update your address with the post office, banks, subscriptions, and other essential services
  • Find local healthcare providers and shopping necessities
  • Buy any new appliances or make plans for what to buy
  • Pack strategically by labelling boxes according to rooms and keep an inventory list

2 Weeks Before

  • Set up utilities like electricity, water, gas, internet, and cable for your new home.
  • Finalize moving arrangements and double-check date, time and logistics

2-3 Days Before

  • Plan payments and expenses for moving
  • Defrost your fridge
  • Clean as you continue to pack
  • Pack things you will need right away, such as toiletries and important documents, separately
  • Do a final walkthrough with your Agent

Moving Day

  • Keep all receipts
  • Pre-clean, and seal any windows or doorways
  • Check for damages in your new home that will need to be fixed
  • Unpack room by room
